Good Morning and a very Happy New Year to you all! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and celebrated New Year in style. Our Christmas was the usual family affair – we stayed at home on Christmas day with my parents visiting and then the children and I travelled up to Hereford on Boxing Day to visit the rest of my family while Andrew and Bungo chilled out at home and built lego! New Year is usually a bit of a non event for us. We spent New year 2014/5 in Disney and saw the New Year in at Epcot fireworks and ever since then it’s been pretty difficult to match it. So we had a relaxed night at home and I’m planning to spend the whole day in my PJs today as it’s back to work tomorrow…boo!
2018 is going to be slightly different to the year I had planned. Any regular readers will know that back in May I started a new job working 2 days a week as a legal secretary and 1 day a week at home helping the same company with their websites and social media. I’ve enjoyed the job but it’s been very different from anything I’ve done before. In a very exciting turn of events, a couple of days before Christmas I was offered a job back at a company I used to work for which will be full time but predominantly working from home! Anyone that knows me will know that working from home has been my ambition since the children were very small and now, 13 years on, I have achieved my goal! As a great friend of mine said when I told her the news…’Working from home – full time? That’s the dream!’. I really hope it turns out to be everything I hoped it would be and the bonus is that I will get to travel about and meet clients every now and then which will be better than being at home 100% of the time. I will need to get very organised and be much stricter with myself so that I can continue blogging and vlogging as well as I really don’t want to give these up having put so much time and effort creating this little space for my thoughts.
I thought that the perfect topic for this first Monday Motivation post of 2018 would be to list my goals for the year. I have thought long and hard about what I want to achieve this year and how likely I am to achieve those things and this is my final list:-
1. Be more organised
Number one on my list of goals for 2018, as mentioned above, is to be more organised. I have times when everything runs like clockwork and then other times when I have no clue what I’m doing from one moment to the next! I was given a weekly desk calendar for my birthday so I’m going to use it to help ensure that I spread jobs out over the week as I don’t want to get to the point where I leave all the household jobs to the weekend and then don’t get any time to spend with the family. I want to work harder at planning my blog and youtube channel better and get ahead of the game by writing posts and filming videos early and scheduling my social media so I can actually work at building and growing this small business. I have really run this as more of a hobby in 2017 even though I did manage to at least post something every week. In 2018 I want to create even more interesting content and take it all a bit more seriously!
2. Don’t sweat the small stuff
Second on my list is going to be to try to stress less about things and enjoy life a bit more. I have found, certainly in the latter part of last year, that my anxiety and stress over the little unimportant things has really taken over. I manage to magnify things that really shouldn’t matter and make them into massive mountains that I struggle to climb! I basically need to chill out! I think being more organised will definitely help with this and also being at home more should enable me to feel more relaxed. I am so excited about lots of the things we have planned for this year, I don’t want to spend the majority of my time worrying about them before they happen!
3. Exercise more
My third goal is to try to do a bit more exercise. I know it’s so cliche to start a new fitness regime in January but I feel that if I’m realistic then I should be able to stick to it. I don’t want to commit to working out every day or even every other day but I thought I would find some fitness classes to start attending so that I at least make a small commitment to getting fitter and healthier. I feel that people that work or have worked in health and fitness are often the worst ones at practicing what they preach, I guess it’s a bit of a busman’s holiday. I am yet to stick to anything fitness oriented but at least now I will be working at home I will be able to take Bungo out for a good walk every day so that at least will help!
4. Visit friends
My fourth goal for the year is to make more of an effort to visit friends. I feel that it is so easy to keep in touch with friends via social media that we often stop making the effort to visit and actually see friends face to face if they live that bit further away. So in 2018 I am going to try harder and reconnect with a few people I haven’t seen in a while…hopefully they’ll be happy to see me too!
5. Start budgeting better
I have a confession to make…I like to spend money. I particularly seem to like spending money I don’t have! We have booked a pretty special holiday for the Summer and somehow need to find a way to pay for it. Now I am working full time I will be earning a bit more money so it’s time to start putting a little bit away each month and perhaps spending a little less on visits to Starbucks and Costa! Andrew bought me a coffee machine for Christmas so I have no excuse! We have a savings jar set up at home so I will fill it with the money I would have spent on take away coffees and I reckon it wont take long to fill it!
I think 5 goals is probably enough. I am resisting calling them resolutions as I think that the expectation is that resolutions are there to be failed whereas a goal is something to work on and to aim to achieve throughout the year. If you need help setting yourself some achievable goals for 2018 then check out my goal setting post. I am pretty excited about the adventures that lie before us in 2018 it is set to be a pretty amazing year. I hope you all have some fun and exciting things planned too and I look forward to sharing our year with you here.
